Glenfiddich 40 Year Old
Glenfiddich 40 Year Old
This 40 year old is from the Time Re:Imagined series from Glenfiddich, a collection of three remarkable aged single malt whiskies; each a unique representation of the ever-changing forms of time and the pinnacle of Glenfiddich’s signature distillery style. Since the 1960s, just three Malt Masters have been at the helm, overseeing the patient development of these rare and precious casks. Several decades later, these single malts have reached the zenith of their maturity and are now ready for release.
This Glenfiddich 40 Year Old encapsulates the intricacies of Cumulative Time. Matured over four decades, it has developed a richness and depth of flavour that is rarely encountered. To craft such an intricately layered whisky, 40 Year Old is produced by a process known as ‘remnant vatting’ in which our Malt Master carries one batch over, time and time again, before marrying it with the casks selected for subsequent release.
Cask after cask and season after season, the whiskies rest, imbuing the spirit with the memories of past releases and years gone by, delivering 40 layers of exquisite flavour accumulated over time. Glenfiddich is the only distillery that uses such a pioneering process, and it is because of this maverick spirit we achieve the apex of whisky-making. Glenfiddich 40 Year Old is so much more than an exemplary single malt, it is time, age, and experience accumulated.
Just as Glenfiddich 40 is composed through the accumulation of time, so too is the packaging which houses it. Each crystal decanter is held within a bespoke jesmonite case, a bold take on geological metamorphosis. Dramatic apertures in the container reveal striking green and copper veins which run through the stone, paying homage to the iconic green glass of Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, and the stills from which this very spirit first flowed. Finally, the bottle is sealed with a striking jesmonite stopper, a subtle echo to the outer packing’s sculptural form.

Tasting Notes
Nose: A deeply layered expression of dried fruits, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and ripe black cherries. Completed with subtle waves of gentle wood smoke, polished leather and cloves.
Taste: A luxuriously full and silky smooth taste, with memories of past releases in every nuanced note. Evolving from deep dried fruit notes to rich fruitcake, dates, raisins and stewed apples, before giving way to dry oaky notes, with subtle hints of bitter chocolate and peat.
Finish: Complex, memorable, and exquisitely long-lasting.
